Blue Note

This winter's mix came from finding practices to move through life's hardships. Time spent looking out over the water, and my first 5Rhythms class, gave me an anchor point in my body while the emotional storms raged on. Although this can be enjoyed sitting still, it is designed as a dance/movement journey. Stretch it out and shake it off. The only way out is through!

Wonderland

It's a Christmas miracle! My seasonal mixes have become sporadic these days, but a rollercoaster year of leaving NYC and coming back to Austin has stoked the creative fire. I am enamored with this mix that was practically channeled and perfectly captures the newness, nostalgia and poignant emotions of this moment in time.

Turn up your headphones, tune into your body and feel into this one. It's a beautiful day. Don't let it get away.

This one goes out to Tasha.

Snowed In

Do you hear what I hear?  The hushed quiet of a blanket of snow? This mix was made over a decade ago and still holds up as my favorite winter hermit mix. Inspired by Björk's Vespertine and Aphex Twin's Drukqs, Snowed In is perfect for getting cozy with some hot chocolate, or hiking up a glacier enjoying a moment of solitude.  Stay warm!

Ice Castle

Finally, we have arrived at the end of 2012 and can take a moment to reflect. The cold wind howls outside our fortress of solitude as we wrap ourselves in furs, waiting for the light to return. These are the songs of crystals deep within the earth, of Old Man Winter and the land of ice and snow, of legends and fantasy. Touch the clear quartz, enter Ice Castle, and prepare for the final freeze.

Stardust

Originally inspired by In the Dawn, this mix has surpassed and become a living entity on its own. I HIGHLY suggest you take this phantasmagorical journey through the cosmos in one sitting, to ensure your safe return. Leave your body and become explosions and dark matter. Drift on radio waves and ether to the outer limits. Stargaze at the night sky and behold all the wonder of this incomprehensible universe.

This collection became very personal for me, trying to capture the unnamable, the spark of hope and potential I feel in this massive world. Know that we are Stardust, and safe journeys my fellow travelers!

In the Dawn

Hello everyone, hope you're staying warm! As this year's winter mix continues to grow and evolve, it suddenly "dawned" on me that it's become a follow-up to this 2008-09 gem. Not a direct descendant, but rather a cosmic kindred spirit. So it wouldn't be proper to unleash the new material on you without paying respects to In the Dawn. With pristine beats as smooth as glass, prepare for an and icy awakening.

From Winter Abbey

Legend has it, in a far off mountain range lies a snow covered keep called Winter Abbey.  Through centuries of war, murder, births and loves come and gone, the ghosts of memories past still haunt the walls.  Some are lost souls, wandering the halls in search of peace they will never find.  Some are forever bound in love, and death.  And yet others are vengeful and angry, twisted into monsters as they drive themselves, and guests, insane.  Many a traveler have braved a cold winter's night here, but precious few have come back, raving mad and trapped in a neverending fugue state.  Challenge the darkness if you dare, but be warned. Nary a soul has appeared with his wits about him that returns From Winter Abbey.

White Wolf

Happy New Year!  As I'm sure you know, I've survived my first blizzard and am sloshing along with the rest of the locals (and tourists).  The weather up here (and dealing with it) is different than anything I've ever experienced, but I'm learning quickly.  Although the Solstice may have passed and the days are slowly growing longer, there is still a long, cold haul ahead.  I'm discovering that winter can be a visceral, brutal beast of an experience, but a delicate, hypnotic creature as well.  It is with this in mind that I made White Wolf.

*New Year's Day warning: White Wolf is not suited for hangovers.  Best enjoyed on a pensive snowy stroll or whilst stalking barefoot through a moonlit enchanted forest.

*A note for iPod/iPhone users:  once downloaded, be sure to put this mix into a playlist before syncing.  Otherwise the files tend to get separated...

P.S. The holidays are over, it's a new year, and we all need a little ray of sunshine to look forward to.  It gives me great pleasure to bring you the first Golden Nugret of 2011.  For those in the know, this needs no explanation.  For everyone else, stay tuned and it will all become crystal clear...

Black Dove

Hello everyone.  This year I am experiencing winter in a whole new way. I'm actually getting to feel the season creep in and take hold.  I'll see real snow for the first time and face a long winter.  Therefore, you're being treated to two winter mixes this year, the second to arrive sometime in January.

But for now, draw up a blanket, light a candle, and listen closely.  It is always darkest before the dawn, and as the year draws to a close, it is a dark night, indeed.  We come together for comfort and joy, but the cold finds its way in...something wicked this way comes!
